This black owned hair store was founded by the husband-and-wife team, Derrick, and Temika Brown in September 2022. Our inspiration for creating Nifty Wigs came from the challenges we faced in finding a good hair stylist in our rural area. With three daughters and a granddaughter, keeping their natural hair healthy and stylish was difficult and expensive. Temika has a hairstylist that she and our daughters like, but trips to the salon are costly and time-consuming. The salon is an hour away, which means we must plan an entire day for them to get their hair done due to travel time. Not to mention the gas expenses. Temika became exhausted from the effort it took to maintain their natural hair and I felt helpless watching my wife struggle, and not being able to provide a solution. After some research, I came across the age-old solution of wigs. They didn't want wigs to wear all the time, but just when time wasn't on their side or they wanted another option. 

But then we asked ourselves, how many other people were having the same struggle. After doing more research we found that wigs were still very relevant. So, we decided we would test the waters and see if we could make a little bit of money, while providing an alternate solution to the hair salon.

In the beginning, the vision was to help our daughters become completely self-sufficient, but that quickly changed. The plan was to allow our daughters to promote the brand and earn some money. But in a matter of weeks, we had influencers contacting us wanting to be a part of our brand! This was completely unexpected but welcomed. It did not take long to figure out that most of these influencers had the same desire as my daughters. 

The desire to embrace the beauty within and make money doing it!
